O Γιώργος Κοζανίδης γεννήθηκε το 1974 στην Αθήνα. Σπούδασε Μηχανολόγος Μηχανικός Βιομηχανίας στην Πολυτεχνική Σχολή του ΠΘ, από όπου αποφοίτησε το 1997. Έκανε αρχικά μεταπτυχιακές σπουδές στο Boston University των Η.Π.Α. λαμβάνοντας το δίπλωμα Μ.Sc. in Manufacturing Engineering το 1998 και κατόπιν στο Northeastern University των Η.Π.Α., όπου του απονεμήθηκαν τα διπλώματα MSc in Operations Research και PhD in Industrial Engineering το 2002. Κατά τη διάρκεια των μεταπτυχιακών σπουδών του στις Η.Π.Α. εργάστηκε ως Βοηθός Διδασκαλίας και Έρευνας και ως Συμβασιούχος Διδάσκων. Το 2002 του απονεμήθηκε το βραβείο εξαιρετικής διδασκαλίας από το College of Engineering του Northeastern University.

Έχει εργαστεί στο Τμήμα Μηχανολόγων Μηχανικών του ΠΘ από τον Απρίλιο του 2004 έως τον Απρίλιο του 2007 ως Διδάσκων ΠΔ 407/80 και μεταδιδακτορικός ερευνητής, από τον Απρίλιο του 2007 έως τον Ιούνιο του 2011 ως Λέκτορας, από τον Ιούνιο του 2011 έως τον Ιούνιο του 2018 ως Επίκουρος Καθηγητής, και από τον Ιούνιο του 2018 έως τον Μάιο του 2026 ως Αναπληρωτής Καθηγητής. Από τον Μάιο του 2026 είναι Καθηγητής στο ίδιο τμήμα, με γνωστικό αντικείμενο Μέθοδοι Βελτιστοποίησης Συστημάτων Παραγωγής/Υπηρεσιών. Διδάσκει τα προπτυχιακά μαθήματα “Γραμμικός Προγραμματισμός” και “Μαθηματικός Προγραμματισμός”, και το μεταπτυχιακό μάθημα “Μέθοδοι και Εργαλεία Βελτιστοποίησης” στο Πρόγραμμα Μεταπτυχιακών Σπουδών “Διοίκηση Εφοδιαστικής Αλυσίδας και Logistics“, ενώ κατά το παρελθόν έχει διδάξει τα προπτυχιακά μαθήματα “Οργάνωση & Διοίκηση Εργοστασίων”, “Διαχείριση Ποιότητας”, “Ακέραιος Προγραμματισμός & Συνδυαστική Βελτιστοποίηση” και “Αξιοπιστία & Συντήρηση Τεχνολογικών Συστημάτων”, και τα μεταπτυχιακά μαθήματα “Χρονικός Προγραμματισμός – Διαχείριση Έργων” και “Συστήματα Ποιότητας, Αξιοπιστίας, Συντήρησης”.

Τα ερευνητικά του ενδιαφέροντα εστιάζονται στην περιοχή της Επιχειρησιακής Έρευνας/Διοικητικής Επιστήμης/Επιστήμης Δεδομένων (Σχεδιασμός και Ανάλυση Αλγορίθμων Βελτιστοποίησης, Οργάνωση και Διαχείριση Αερομεταφορών, Διαχείριση Εφοδιαστικής Αλυσίδας/Logistics, Στοχαστικά Συστήματα Παραγωγής, Υπηρεσιών και Μεταφορών). Έχει συμμετάσχει σε αρκετά χρηματοδοτούμενα ερευνητικά έργα, τόσο ως επιστημονικός υπεύθυνος, όσο και ως ερευνητής. Έχει επίσης διατελέσει κριτής σε διεθνή επιστημονικά περιοδικά και συνέδρια. Είναι μέλος του INFORMS, της ΕΕΕΕ και του ΤΕΕ.

Από το 2012 διατηρεί αδιάλειπτη ερευνητική συνεργασία με πολυεθνική εταιρεία ανάπτυξης λογισμικού για αεροπορικές εταιρείες, ως υπεύθυνος για την ανάπτυξη εξειδικευμένων αλγορίθμων βελτιστοποίησης (column generation, branch and price, assignment, etc.) με στόχο την αποτελεσματική διαχείριση λειτουργιών αεροπορικών εταιρειών (crew scheduling, fleet assignment, flight scheduling, tail assignment, commercial planning, vacation planning, preferential bidding, disruption handling, training scheduling, etc.).
