ΣΠΟΥΔΕΣ – ΣΥΝΤΟΜΟ ΒΙΟΓΡΑΦΙΚΟ

Ο Δημήτρης Βαλουγεώργης αποφοίτησε με το δίπλωμα του μηχανολόγου μηχανικού από το Αριστοτέλειο Πανεπιστήμιο Θεσσαλονίκης το 1980, και στη συνέχεια πήρε τα διπλώματα M.S. και Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering από το Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (VPI&SU), το 1982 και 1985 αντίστοιχα.

Στη διάρκεια των μεταπτυχιακών του σπουδών εργάστηκε ως Βοηθός Έρευνας στις περιοχές της πειραματικής καύσης (1981-1982) και της κινητικής θεωρίας αερίων (1982-85). Από το 1985 έως το 1987 διατέλεσε Εντεταλμένος Επίκουρος Καθηγητής στο Τμήμα Εφαρμοσμένων Μαθηματικών του VPI&SU, ασκώντας παράλληλα ερευνητική δραστηριότητα στο Κέντρο Μαθηματικής Φυσικής του ιδίου πανεπιστημίου. Στο τέλος του 1987 επέστρεψε στην Ελλάδα, και αφού ολοκλήρωσε τις στρατιωτικές του υποχρεώσεις, εργάστηκε στα Ελληνικά Πετρέλαια (πρώην ΕΚΟ) σαν Μηχανικός Νέων Έργων στο βιομηχανικό συγκρότημα της Θεσσαλονίκης από το 1989 έως το 1998. Επίσης από το 1988 έως το 1992 είχε ερευνητική και διδακτική συνεργασία, σαν Ειδικός Επιστήμων, με το Τμήμα Μηχανολόγων Μηχανικών του Αριστοτελείου Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλονίκης (ΑΠΘ).

Από τον Σεπτέμβριο του 1998 εργάζεται στο Τμήμα Μηχανολόγων Μηχανικών του Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλίας (ΠΘ). Είναι Καθηγητής Αναλυτικών και Υπολογιστικών Μεθόδων Μεσοκλίμακας σε Φαινόμενα Ροής και Μεταφοράς και μέλος του Εργαστηρίου Φυσικών και Χημικών Διεργασιών.

Είναι μέλος του Τεχνικού Επιμελητηρίου Ελλάδας (ΤΕΕ), του Συλλόγου Διπλωματούχων Μηχανολόγων – Ηλεκτρολόγων Μηχανικών, της Ελληνικής Εταιρίας Υπολογιστικής Μηχανικής (ΕΛΕΤΥΜ) και ήταν μέλος των διεθνών οργανισμών American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), American Mathematical Society (AMS), Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM).

Τα ερευνητικά του ενδιαφέροντα περιλαμβάνουν την αναλυτική και υπολογιστική μελέτη των φαινομένων μεταφοράς, της κινητικής θεωρίας αερίων, της δυναμικής αραιοποιημένων αερίων (rarefied gas dynamics), των ολοκληρωτικών-διαφορικών εξισώσεων (εξίσωση Boltzmann, και κινητικά μοντέλα). Οι εφαρμογές της έρευνάς του εστιάζονται στην μικρορευστοδυναμική, σε μικρο-ηλεκτρο-μηχανολογικά συστήματα (MEMS), στην τεχνολογία κενού και στα συστήματα απαγωγής αερίων σε αντιδραστήρες σύντηξης. Επίσης έχει ασχοληθεί με το φαινόμενο του «sloshing», με τον ρευστοδυναμικό σχεδιασμό και βελτιστοποίηση δικτύων σωληνώσεων και με ειδικά θέματα υπολογιστικής ρευστοδυναμικής. Η έρευνά του χρηματοδοτείται από το Ευρωπαϊκό Πρόγραμμα Σύντηξης (EUROfusion) και από άλλα ευρωπαϊκά ερευνητικά προγράμματα.

Είναι συγγραφέας 100 περίπου επιστημονικών άρθρων σε έγκριτα διεθνή επιστημονικά περιοδικά και κριτής σε πολλά περιοδικά και συνέδρια στα γνωστικά αντικείμενα της μηχανικής ρευστών και φαινομένων μεταφοράς. Είναι μέλος Επιστημονικών Επιτροπών Διεθνών Συνεδρίων συμπεριλαμβανομένων των Συνεδρίων “European Conference of Microfluidics” και “European Vacuum Conference” και συν-διοργανωτής του συνεδρίου “European Conference of Non-Equilibrium Gas Flows” που οργανώνεται κάθε 3 χρόνια. Επίσης, είναι μέλος της Εκδοτικής Επιτροπής του περιοδικού VACUUM και της Διοικούσας Επιτροπής του Εθνικού Προγράμματος Ελεγχόμενης Θερμοπυρηνικής Σύντηξης. Έχει διδάξει στα πανεπιστήμια VPI&SU, ΑΠΘ και ΠΘ πτυχιακά και μεταπτυχιακά μαθήματα σε εφαρμοσμένα μαθηματικά, υπολογιστικές μεθόδους, υπολογιστική ρευστοδυναμική, μετάδοση θερμότητας, κινητική θεωρία και μικρορευστοδυναμική.
