By decision of the Department’s Assembly and in accordance with applicable legislation, a faculty member or teaching staff of the Department of Mechanical Engineering is appointed for each student as an Academic Advisor. The role of Academic Advisor is advisory during the studies on academic and personal matters, as the first point of contact of the students with the University. The first-year students are informed of the name of the Advisor upon registration in the Department and can utilize his knowledge and experience throughout their studies. The term of office of the Academic Advisor is the entire duration of the student’s studies.

The Academic Advisor, in collaboration with the student’s support service, advises and supports first-year students in particular, with the aim of facilitating their transition from secondary to tertiary education. He also advises and informs all students on matters relating to their studies and their subsequent professional careers. More specifically, with the help of the Academic Advisor, students have the opportunity:

  • to shape the program study that best suits their personal abilities, interests and skills,
  • to acquire knowledge of the scientific and professional experience of their advisors, while simultaneously orienting themselves professionally,
  • to have a supporter in the academic and personal difficulties that they may encounter during their studies.

The Academic Advisor is not responsible for providing advice on procedural matters or reminding the student of his obligations. His role is not decisive but advisory and not exclusively, as the students should also consult other faculty members, especially the instructors of the course they intend to choose, as well as the supervisors of their diploma thesis.
