DIAMOND is a European Doctoral Network funded by the European Commission’s Horizon Europe (HORIZON) Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action. More on the Doctoral Network can be found in the DIAMOND network project page.
We are hiring a Doctoral Candidate (DC6) to join the System Dynamics Laboratory (SDLab) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (www.mie.uth.gr) of the University of Thessaly (www.uth.gr), Greece. The position has a duration of 36 months and can lead to a PhD degree. The successful candidate must register for the PhD program in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Thessaly.
Host Organization: The beneficiary/employer in the Doctoral Candidate position DC6 is University of Thessaly in Greece.
Eligibility Criteria: The applicants may be of any nationality. At the time of recruitment, the researchers
- Shall be at their beginning of their research career and must not have been awarded a doctoral degree
- Conditions of international mobility require that researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity in Greece for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the recruitment date.
- The candidate must hold a Master of Science or equivalent degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering or related fields to the project’s subject matter
- Candidates who do not have the required qualification at the call closing date may apply but the academic qualifications must be awarded before enrolment in the PhD School.

The Hosting Group: The Department of Mechanical Engineering (DME) (http://www.mie.uth.gr) of the University of Thessaly (http://www.uth.gr) is involved in the DIAMOND project. Within the DME, the research units “Systems Dynamics Laboratory (SDLab)” and “Automatic Control & Autonomous Systems Laboratory (ACAS)” will participate to the DIAMOND network. The SDLab is performing internationally leading research on data-driven uncertainty quantification in engineering science. SDLab research expertise include: probabilistic modeling, Bayesian inference, optimal experimental design, structural identification, structural health monitoring, structural reliability, design optimization under uncertainty. A wide range of applications is covered, including mechanical, structural and civil engineering systems, as well as smart infrastructure networks (e.g. transportation and water distribution networks). Through collaborations with international research groups in Europe and USA, members of SDLab (http://www.mie.uth.gr/labs/sdl) are also involved in research related to data-driven modeling and uncertainty quantification and propagation in the areas of molecular dynamics, nanotechnology, computational fluid dynamics, and in biomechanical/biological systems (e.g. multi-scale modelling of muscle tissues, epidemic spread on networks, optimal sensor cell distribution in fish lateral line), impacting developments in the broader field of data-driven simulation-based engineering and life sciences. The ACAS laboratory (http://control.mie.uth.gr) conducts research in automatic control, autonomous systems and their applications to cyber-physical systems including transport/irrigation networks and automated vehicles, robotics, healthcare and biomedical systems, environmental systems/wildfire management for climate, and further areas.
