Office Hours: Tuesday 16:00 -18:00
Dr. Saharidis received his 5-year Engineering Diploma in Production Engineering and Management from the Technical University of Crete in 2001. He received his MSc and PhD in supply chain management form Ecole Centrale Paris in 2002 and 2006 respectively. His M.Sc. and Ph.D. thesis were conducted in the area of decomposition techniques (mathematical and structural decomposition techniques) applied on production planning and scheduling problems.
Dr. Saharidis is an expert in developing models, optimization methods and decision support systems for real-world problems. His areas of interest focus mainly on the development of decomposition methods for the solution of large-scale problems. The areas of applications include transportation, civil engineering, environmental engineering, chemical engineering, industrial engineering. He has led the development on solutions approaches opening new opportunities in the area of mathematical programming. Among them feature novel acceleration methods for the Benders decomposition algorithm and bi-level optimization which have been successfully applied in multiple engineering problems. Additionally, Dr. Saharidis has developed a novel air quality monitoring device i.e. GYA1178. GYA1178 monitors in real time PM2.5 and other emissions (e.g. PM1, PM10, SO2, NOx, CO2, CH4).
Dr. Saharidis’s research areas also include studies on carbon footprint in the field of transportation. The latest scientific results focus on the calculation of emission factors for low- and heavy- duty vehicles in the framework of the European funded project GreenRoute and the nationally funded project EnvRouting (for both projects see www.greenyourroute.com).
Finally, Dr. Saharidis is the scientific in charge of the air quality monitoring network GreenYourAir which covers several regions in Greece (for more see: www.greenyourair.org).
