Each year, the European Research Council (ERC) grants up to €1.5 million to early-career researchers in Europe to support innovative research across various fields. On September 5, the ERC awarded 494 Starting Grants totaling €780 million to emerging researchers.

Among the 22 grant recipients in France in the physical sciences and engineering domain is Panagiotis Andrianesis, whose project, “CRISP” (Crisis-Resilient Price Discovery in Decarbonized Power Systems) aims to enhance power system optimization and economics, integrate renewable energy sources, and improve electricity markets. The project focuses on developing new theories and methodologies for crisis-resilient pricing to better align market outcomes with system operators’ decisions and promote equitable decarbonization.

Dr. Andrianesis (Member, IEEE) is a graduate of the Hellenic Army Academy, with a B.Sc. in Economics from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and a Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece. He earned an M.Sc. in Production Management and a Ph.D. in the design and analysis of electricity market mechanisms from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Thessaly, Greece (under the supervision of Professor George Liberopoulos).

He has served as a Consultant and Research Associate at ECCO International Inc. (with Dr. Alex Papalexopoulos), a Postdoctoral Researcher (with Professor Michael Caramanis) and a Research Associate Professor in the Division of Systems Engineering at Boston University, and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Wind and Energy Systems at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). He is currently an Associate Professor at the Center for Processes, Renewable Energy, and Energy Systems (PERSEE) at Mines Paris-PSL (École Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Paris—Paris Sciences et Lettres Université), France.

His research interests include power system economics, electricity markets, operations research, optimization, and applied mathematics. He received the 2010 IEEE APS Pre-Doctoral Research Award and is a member of INFORMS.
