\u03c0\u03b1\u03c1\u03bf\u03c5\u03c3\u03af\u03b1\u03c3\u03b7\u03c2<\/strong><\/p><p>Multiscale modeling has attracted the interest of interdisciplinary researchers the last century. Mesoscale formulation gives the opportunity to bridge the gap between atomistic\/microscale phenomena and continuum mechanics.\u00a0In this talk, we will explore the mathematical formulation and implementation of a wide range of Reynolds numbers starting with motion of molten alloys spreading on (non)wetting solid substrates to turbulent flows at the land-vegetation-atmosphere interface which governs the wildfire propagation. My doctorate research, at Washington State University, was motivated by micrometeorites that penetrate the outer shell of manmade objects causing catastrophic consequences. That gave rise to a repair scenario where holes are covered by a brazed alloy. We explored stable and unstable configurations of the molten liquid around given geometry. A phase field formulation including chemical reaction at the triple line is formulated as well, indicating certain anomalies of dynamical contact angle and triple line motion. During my post-doctoral appointment at the University of California, Irvine, I investigated high Reynolds number problems, including canopy turbulent flow and wildfires. With millions of acres scorched out every year by wildfires, causing unprecedented and often irreversible damage to global flora and fauna, a thermodynamically consistent computational model is urgent. Two major components contribute to the description of fire front propagation: turbulent forest flow and combustion. Reynolds Average Navier Stokes equations for canopy flow including short circuiting effect and wake mechanisms are implemented for (non)-homogeneous canopy heights for flat and hilly terrains. The combusted sharp interface model can predict the position of fire front for (non)homogeneous fuel density for flat terrains. When convection is prescribed, the front follows elliptical shape as field results indicate. Future collaboration will be discussed to address questions on droplet impingement on solid\/leaf surfaces, liquid atomization ejected by an air tanker firefighter and connection between laser doppler velocimetry measurements and canopy flow
