The search for the optimum steel |
Περιγραφή: |
The presentation is divided into 4 chapters dealing with current News on steel, Toughness, Light-weight design and Visions. In News the current situation of steel production, raw materials and prices will be shortly addressed. The chapter Toughness explains the demands from different sectors for new structural steels. Toughness parameters for pipeline steels will be defined, the microscopic features governing the toughness properties are explained. Recent progress of toughness modelling including the ductile/brittle transition will be illustrated. The chapter Light-weight design takes the automotive car body as an example for intensive intermaterial competition. New steel groups like the Advanced High Strength Steels and the austenitic high Mn steels show extraordinary properties with respect to strength and formability. Different phenomena controlling the strain hardening behaviour are explained. Also new steels for transmission train or chassis parts will be addressed. The chapter Visions highlights recent activities in using ab initio methods for materials modelling, modern steel characterisation tools, and options for future steel development.
