The Group of Structural Mechanics is within the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and specializes in the simulation of the structural behavior of structures and structural components, under severe loading conditions that may threaten their structural integrity.
Simulation is mainly numerical through the development of nonlinear finite element models, whereas key experiments are also performed in support of the numerical work.
The Group is very active in funded research through a wide network of international collaborations, and offers high-level services to the steel construction industry and the oil & gas sector.
